Tombstone Preservation Workshop
- NYCHAPS
- Events & Programs
Friday, May 22nd from 9am - 12pm
Help us usher in the America250 celebration by joining us in a new adventure!
Mr Jacob Lemon will demonstrate the process of preserving headstones and then allow us limited time to get some practical experience. We will spend the morning observing the repairing of 2 broken tombstones and the cleaning of 3 others – including Thomas & Archibald Campbell. All of these tombstones mark Revolutionary War Soldiers who are laid to rest in the Dillsburg Cemetery.
Please wear old clothing and bring gloves and eye protection. The cleaner that is used on the headstones can potentially stain or bleach clothing, particularly delicate or dark fabrics. While it is pH neutral and biodegradable, it is a concentrated cleaner containing ammonium compounds, therefore, the manufacturer recommends users wear protective gloves to prevent skin irritation.
Enter the Dillsburg Cemetery from the Mountain Rd entrance closest to Rt 15. Take the 1st right and park alongside the road.
No RSVP is needed. Just come prepared to learn a special way to honor those who have gone before and who sacrificed so much in order for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today.
This is a FREE event which is open to the public. Mr Lemon is donating his time to this effort and the manufacturer is donating the cleaner.
