Life changed drastically in the 25-year period from 1794 to 1819 for all Americans. Showcased here are how the efforts of two immigrant families from very different cultures each carved out a place for themselves that benefited the whole community. On a tour you will experience life in early America. Hear the echoes from the wooden floors and climb the steep stairs to the sleeping quarters of the original 1794 section of Dills Tavern. Sit in the chairs and imagine discussing "current" events or how the war with Britain was affecting the cost of imports.
Distilling was a major economic factor during this time. The Eichelberger Distillery is a fully functioning, reproduction distillery using 18th century methods and technology that you won’t find anywhere else. Methods and ingredients gleaned from our ledger and old manuscripts guide our interpretation of the cradle of American whiskey - Pennsylvania Rye. Entries in ledgers kept by the Eichelberger family inspire an offering of libations that appealed to 18th century tastes and please modern palates as well. (over 21, ID required to taste or purchase alcohol)
Rounding out those experiences are a wheelwright shop where carpentry, coopering, and blacksmithing are still practiced, a rare German architecture log barn c1798, a “squirrel-tail” bake oven, heritage orchard, and colonial garden.
