The Settee Bench

settee bench with clair

Pictured to the left (with Clair alongside), is a beautiful circa 1800 settee bench, donated to NYCHAPS. It is currently situated in the downstairs entrance hallway of the Tavern. As usual, there's a story that comes with the bench.

auction notice for setteeOne of our visitors to the site noted to Clair Zeiders that he had purchased an original bench from the Logan estate auction held at the Tavern in 1990. His wife was acting as attorney for the estate sale at the time and this particular item caught his eye, so he successfully bid. It had been a cherished part of their household for years, but the family graciously thought it would be a great addition to the Dills Tavern furnishings. We were so thankful for this historical treasure!

*Note the settee as pictured in the 1990 Sale Notice!
