Join us for the first First Friday event of the new year with fun, friends, and more at Dills Tavern on Friday, January 6th, from 7-10 pm. Enjoy the sounds of the season as Greenwood Muse presents their unique type of lovely 17th century music with flickering candlelight and warm fires.
To ensure a great new year, let’s start with an old English celebration, Wassailing. Wassailing was a common practice in England, and it was meant to ensure a good harvest from the cider apple orchard. “Waes Hael” means to your health. This year, we will include wassail in our January 6th First Friday tasting line-up.
We are lucky to have Greenwood Muse providing the music for the evening. At the conclusion of each tasting we will practice the Wassailing Song in preparation for the 9:45 procession from the courtyard to the edge of the orchard. Participants are encouraged to dress in brightly colored attire with hats adorned in a festive winter or orchard theme. Keep in mind: it will be cold, but the march is short and we will have fires along the way. We will make noise, shoot off a cannon to scare away any evil spirits followed by the joyful noise of singing Here We Come a Wassailing and placing toast in the tree for a good harvest.
The libations for the January First Friday Tasting will consist of the following:
