This beginner blacksmithing class is a walk-through for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing. Students will make a variety of small and simple projects from ‘S’ hooks and buttons to small buckles or brooches. The class will focus very heavily on safety, knowledge of tools, and terms of the trade. Teacher Jason Metzger will have three different styles of forges for students to use. The first is a rivet forge using charcoal. The class will then move on to the second rivet forge using soft coal, and end on a more modern gas forge. The use of three styles of forges allows students to experience a wide variety of equipment from the past and present. This class will be held twice a year and may be used as a mandatory step for other classes in the future. Class size limited to 12 students.
